The Hoplite is a land combat anti cavalry unique unit in Civilization VI. This unit is unique to Greece.

These citizen-soldiers of ancient Greek city-states were outfitted in heavy bronze armor and carried a long spear, short sword and big round shield. Hoplites received basic military training (with the exception of the professional army of the Spartans), until Phillip II of Macedon where Greeks became professional soldiers, and primarily fought in the phalanx formation, a combat technique pioneered by Greece's generals between 750 and 350 BC.
